Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease characterised by red spots or patches where the skin quickly accumulates giving a silvery white appearance. As with many other skin complaints there are usually good periods where no outbreaks occur.
It is not fully understood, however, Psoriasis is believed to have a genetic component, although it is also known to develop in people with no previous family history of psoriasis. It is not contagious.
The most common type is plaque psoriasis.
Can I cure it?
Treatment for psoriasis will alleviate the symptoms but will not cure the disease. It is therefore important to supply the skin with good skincare as psoriasis skin tends to be dry.
How does Dermaviduals Help to improve it?
Many of the additives (perfumes, mineral oils and emulsifiers) used in cosmetic products are not suitable for the care of a skin susceptible to psoriasis as they can provoke attacks. Dermaviduals products are 100% free from perfumes, mineral oils, and emulsifiers and are physiologically similar to the skin itself, thus less provocative to the skin.
Remember as well that, although Psoriasis skin tends to be dry, cleaning is an important part of the skin’s routine. Highly degreasing soaps should be avoided, instead use Dermaviduals gentle cleansers, or lotion P. Also bathing in irritant-free bath oils (such a Tenifone Bath Oil) is recommended.
Moisturiser Plus contains Urea, and Soothing Lotion contains Fumaric Acid. Both these products are ideal and neither contains perfumes mineral oils or emulsifiers.
